infinite subtweeting

Happy hump day!

Is Sam Altman basically Elon Musk 2.0?

Only time will tell.

But he IS doing a great job of marketing his products.

  • GPT2-chatbot appeared with a parallel tweet, then disappeared
  • im-a-good-gpt2-chatbot appeared with a coordinated tweet
  • im-also-a-good-gpt2-chatbot also appeared

This is mess.

I don't have time for this ridiculousness. But it does drive eyeballs. And some people absolutely love it. (this is a very nerdy video, click at your own risk)

I found watching the Infinite Dolly Shot a bit excruciating, but I forced myself to stay and watch the whole thing because I sensed some narrative plot. It's also interesting to consider what the prompts must have been and how they reflect the creator/director's nostalgia, which may or may not reflect what nostalgia feels like to the people.

I'll just come out and say it: it feels very Gen X. But Throwback is all the rage, right?

AI-Automation is Coming to Marketing

And I'm not scared at all. << I mentioned it on LinkedIn, and I'll repeat it here.

This is currently way out of reach for most SMBs, government teams, and non-profits. But when these types of tools become available to us mere marketers of the people for the people, there will still need to be a driver in the seat making sure it's not going rogue.

I'll tell you one thing I am excited about—the upstart atmosphere. I'm glad this is happening outside the dominating software forces driving digital marketing.

Perhaps they'll be acquired and gobbled up one day by Intuit, Salesforce, or Adobe, but for now, I'm happy to see these advancements emerging outside of those spaces.

There is no shortage of new (hyped?) development in the AI+creative+marketing space right now. Here are a few other things I'm percolating right now:

  • I recently gave up my Apple Watch for a Whoop for more and better data and fewer distractions during my day.
  • I continue to turn to Perplexity when Google search results try to make me watch a video to find the answer. I thought I'd be over this by now.
  • Yesterday, I planted bare-root roses for the first time and then (today) read that I was supposed to soak the roots for two days first. Whoops.

Have a great day, friend. As always, you're welcome to reply and share what you're seeing, tell me I'm wrong about it all, or offer me rose-growing tips!!

Cheers,

Elizabeth
